Anyone who’s been paying attention lately knows of the border and migrant crisis that the Biden administration has caused. Despite the partisan games now being played as an election approaches, the truth remains that the Biden administration has sabotaged everything the Trump administration did to secure the border. This truth is supported by straight-forward evidence in the form of executive actions by Trump and Biden, respectively, and resulting migrant encounters during each presidency.
First, the following are relevant Biden executive orders that undermined border security, along with any Trump executive orders that were revoked by them:

This list and all of the above-mentioned actions show the extent to which the Biden administration has intentionally sabotaged border security.
The following data documents the results of the policies of the Trump and Biden administrations, respectively. The table immediately below shows the total migrant encounters per fiscal year from 2017 to present. FY 2024 runs from October 2023 through September 2024, and the numbers shown below for FY 2024 reflect only October 2023 through January 2024 (four months) so far. This table demonstrates the relative success of the Trump administration and the utter failure of the Biden administration regarding border security.

The following is a list of several violent crimes committed by illegal migrants in recent months under the Biden administration:
- 12/12/2023: Jose Guadalupe Menjivar-Alas, an illegal migrant from El Salvador, was driving drunk when he hit a car and killed 16-year-old Riordan Powell and his mother in Broomfield, CO.
- 12/19/2023: Eric Santillan, an illegal migrant from Mexico, raped a 15-year-old girl in Ooltewah, TN.
- 1/9/2024: Haitian illegal migrant Pierre Lucard Elime was arrested for raping a developmentally disabled person in Boston.
- 1/27/2024: Illegal aliens attacked a police officer in Times Square.
- 1/30/2024: Alonzo Pierre Mingo, who had been in ICE custody, disguised himself as a package delivery man and shot three people in the head, killing them.
- 2/7/2024: Seven migrants were arrested in NYC for a string of robberies.
- 2/22/2024: Jose Antonio Ibarra murdered Laken Riley in Athens, GA.
- 2/28/2024: Angel Matias Castellanos-Orellana, who came through Eagle Pass on Oct 6, 2023, was arrested for raping a minor in Kenner, LA. He was also charged with assault, armed robbery, and aggravated battery.
- 2/28/2024: A 19-year-old Honduran immigrant was sentenced to be deported for possession of a rifle and ammunition in Kenner, LA.
- 2/28/2024: Noel Trejo-Granados, an illegal migrant from El Salvador, was arrested for murdering a 2-year-old boy in Montgomery County, MD.
The list shown above is only a small handful of examples of violent crime committed by illegal migrants who entered the country on Joe Biden’s watch. These crimes and the migrant encounter statistics reflect the damage that the Biden administration’s policies have caused.
With an election approaching, Joe Biden has now begun pretending that he has been working toward border security all along and is now blaming Congress for allegedly blocking his efforts. The fact remains that he has the ability to secure the border without the help of Congress but that he refuses to do so. This fact is proven by his history of executive actions that have greatly undermined border security.

However, if Congress’ help were necessary, H.R. 2, which was passed by the House of Representatives, would be the solution. H.R. 2, also known as the Secure the Border Act of 2023, is brief and to the point and generally does the following (source: https://www.cbo.gov/publication/59151):
- Limits the ability of DHS to provide parole to aliens
- Requires all employers to use E-Verify
- Requires DHS to resume building the border wall
- Makes various technology-related improvements for monitoring the border
Instead, Biden and Democrats are pushing H.R. 815, the Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024, which was passed by the Senate, includes a number of “poison pills,” and includes the following sections of text:
- “DISCRETIONARY ACTIVATION. The Secretary may activate the border emergency authority if, during a period of 7 consecutive calendar days, there is an average of 4,000 or more aliens who are encountered each day.”
- “MANDATORY ACTIVATION. The Secretary shall activate the border emergency authority if (i) during a period of 7 consecutive calendar days, there is an average of 5,000 or more aliens who are encountered each day; or (ii) on any 1 calendar day, a combined total of 8,500 or more aliens are encountered.”
- “JUDICIAL REVIEW. Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, judicial review of any decision or action in this section shall be governed only by the United States District Court for the District of Columbia…”
- “JUDICIALREVIEW… The United States District Court for the District of Columbia shall have sole and original jurisdiction to hear challenges…”
In other words, H.R. 815 allows many thousands of illegal border crossings over time and places jurisdiction in the hands of the overwhelmingly leftist D.C. courts.
Regarding congressional bills, H.R. 2 would be incredibly more effective than H.R. 815, but either of these bills would generally put mandates on the Biden administration to take actions that Joe Biden already has the authority to take without congressional approval. Again, the fact remains that Biden can secure the border without the help of Congress but has refused to do so throughout his entire presidency.
